Gala Benefit Concert Featuring Scott MacIntyre

Mesa Arts Center, Ikeda Theater The Symphony of the Southwest opening concert will feature local talent and American Idol finalist Scott MacIntyre. Scott MacIntyre began playing piano by ear at age 3, though he has been visually impaired since birth. He has been profiled on CNN, Sky News Europe, USA Today, and other media as pianist, vocalist, and songwriter. He has independently released 6 full-length CD’s, was one of the 13 finalists on Fox’s “American Idol 8″ and has written in genres spanning pop, rock, punk, jazz, and classical.

Children of all ages will love to explore and discover classic music written especially for young ears. The Youth Symphony of the Southwest (ages 15 to 20) will perform Debussy’s The Children’s Corner, and the Symphony of the Southwest will further delight you with Tubby The Tuba featuring a special guest narrator and Saint Saens’ The Carnival of Animals, featuring acclaimed pianists Walter Cosand and Robert Hamilton.

Our holiday concert event is an event the entire family will enjoy. Symphony of the Southwest performs timeless, light-classical music and our popular Christmas carol sing-a-long in a visual Christmas wonderland including an appearance by Santa Claus himself. The Symphony of the Southwest will be joined side by side with the Youth Symphony of the Southwest.

Our Mother’s Day concert celebrates the romantic beauty of classical music from the French masters: Chabrier’s España, Ravel’s Pavanne for a Dead Princess and Mother Goose, Debussy’s Danse and Afternoon of a Faun, Saint-Saens’ The Swan, Allegro Appassionato and Bacchanale, and Dukas’ Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
